The Garden Evolution in historical Villas
Discovering some of the most amazing and sweet smelling gardens inside of historic villas.
A journey in the Venetian countryside that will give you the opportunity to admire some astonishing “natural masterpieces” in a very distinctive context and to learn how the garden evolved over the centuries.
The garden as trait-d’union between the villa and the surrounding environment has undergone deep changes over the centuries. The Renaissance garden was a “natural” extension of the inner rooms, whereas in the 16th century the garden was considered as independent part of the whole villa complex, until the English or Romantic garden in which trees and flowers grow spontaneously but they were wisely planted.
The first destination is the amazing garden in Italian style of villa Barbarigo in the Euganean Hills. Designed by Luigi Bernini in the second half of the 17th century it is one of the few gardens in Veneto that has maintained the same architectonical layout with many symbolic elements. We move then to Battaglia Terme and visit the fairy-tale Villa Selvatico on the top of Saint Helen’s hill. This villa was erected at the end of the 16th century but its garden is a typical Romantic garden designed by Giuseppe Jappelli in the 19th century. Lunch in an Agriturismo.
In the afternoon we move to Vescovana and visit the Villa Pisani Scalabrin. This mansion was erected in the first half of the 16th century by the noble Pisani family in the area where from the 11th century there was a large estate belonging to the daughter of the Duke of Saxon and Baviera. The creation of the amazing garden goes back to the 19th century and it presents elements from the Arab, Italian and Romantic tradition.
The last stop is Villa Widmann Borletti in Bagnoli di Sopra. Visit of the garden with its acting statues and of the wine cellars created by the monks when this area was a Benedictine monastery. Taste of the typical local wine Friularo.
